The tradition
Afghan dress is not one style but many. The Kuchi nomads of the south and east layered full skirts with mirror work, coins and tassels that catch light as the wearer moves. Pashtun families embroider the chest panel of a frock with dense geometric threadwork and pair it with a matching shalwar and scarf. Hazaragi dress from the central highlands is known for its fitted bodice, bright ground colours and distinctive embroidered vests. A bride wears green for the nikah, red for the henna night and gold zardozi for the wedding itself.
HMN makes all of these in the way our family learned them: cut by hand, embellished by hand and fitted on the person who will wear them. We respect the regional details because they are what give each dress its meaning, and we are happy to blend tradition with a modern line for women who want a cleaner silhouette with the embroidery their mothers wore.
Every dress on this page is custom made to your measurements and quoted on request. Clients come to the studio from Dandenong, Cranbourne, Officer, Pakenham and across Melbourne's south east for weddings, Eid, Nowruz, mehndi nights and family portraits. Bring a photo or a memory and we will design the dress with you.
