Modern Afghan gown with velvet bodice

A modern Afghan gown that pairs a black velvet bodice with long fitted sleeves and a plain cream skirt gathered from the natural waist to the floor. The scoop neckline is framed by an embroidered bib in gold, pink and orange with a square centre motif and a pointed gold edge. Nothing else is added, so the contrast of velvet and cream does the work. With the bodice fitted closely to the waist, each gown is custom tailored to your measurements.

Made to measure
Every piece starts with a consultation at the studio in Officer, where we talk through the design, the fabric and your date. We take your measurements and cut to them, then fit the piece once or twice before it is finished.
Typical timeline: Four to eight weeks, depending on the embroidery, mirror work and trims. Bridal gowns need three months.
Bring the shoes and undergarments you will wear with it, so the length and fit are set correctly.

Fabric and care
Made in the fabric you choose, for example a velvet for the bodice with a crepe or a cotton blend for the skirt. Velvet and embroidered pieces are dry clean only, steamed lightly from the reverse rather than pressed.
